What is Academic Advising?
Advising is one of the most important services provided at UAS. It is a two-way interaction where the student and the advisor work together to establish academic and career goals and then plan for courses and activities which enable students to accomplish those goals. Students are expected to get in contact with their advisor, meet regularly, keep all appointments, follow through with referrals and ask for help when they need it.
Students are encouraged to visit their advisor for:
- Support for when you're navigating the university system
- Planning for completion of your General Education Requirements (GERs)
- Exploring your options for choosing a major
- Helping with course selection and registration
- Answering questions about academic policies, such as adding and dropping classes
- Assisting with transitioning from high school, the professional workforce, or transferring from other colleges or universities
- Support in determining what to do if you are struggling academically
- Assistance with Graduation
