Ports, Harbors & Marinas
The Career Training for Ports and Marinas program provides an opportunity for those working in coastal facilities to advance their knowledge and skills. Whether you are newly employed working on the docks or have management experience in the field, these courses enhance the skills required to be successful in a number of port, harbor and marina occupations. These online courses are available for you to take in your own community, studying at your own convenience. After you have registered, you will receive an email with your online course access information. It may take up to 24-48 hours for your course to be available to you.
This program was developed in partnership with the University of Alaska Southeast, Pacific Coast Congress of Harbormasters and Port Managers (PCC), Alaska Association of Harbormasters and Port Administrators, Harbor Authority Association of British Columbia, Washington Sea Grant, and the California Association of Harbormasters and Port Captains (CAHMPC).

This course provides fire prevention and fire fighting training and skills development for anyone who works at a harbor or marina.
Almost certainly marina personnel will be first responders to a fire in their facility. Understanding the causes, how to fight a fire, and how to work with the local fire departments saves lives, property and environmental damage. Learn the basics of fire, fire fighting, fire prevention, and the interface between harbor personnel and fire departments as well as policy and planning. Actual examples are used to teach. Because marina employees have local knowledge of their facilities, they are a critical asset in unified fire responses. This course prepares them to be that asset. Employees will learn about the importance of grounding and bonding, sources and means for prevention of stray and galvanic currents, as well as testing and troubleshooting procedures.
