Checking Out Materials
Borrowing Policies
Books are checked out for 21 days and may be renewed once, either in person or by telephone, providing that no holds have been placed on them by another patron. Videos may be checked out for seven days and may be renewed once. Overdue fines are $.05 per day, up to a maximum of $2.00; a default replacement cost for lost items is $35.00, and a processing fee for lost items of $7.00 is charged, $5.00 of which is waived if the item is later found.
Library Cards
The UAS Ketchikan Campus Library is a member of the First City Libraries Consortium, a library consortium made up of the Ketchikan Public Library, the libraries at the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Schools, and the UAS Ketchikan Campus Library. Any UAS Ketchikan student may obtain a First City Libraries library card at the Campus Library. However, distance students taking classes from UAS Ketchikan faculty which require the checkout of videos from UAS Ketchikan will automatically be assigned a library barcode number and, therefore, require no registration. If you are a UAS Ketchikan distance student taking a class not requiring the checkout of videos, please contact the UAS Ketchikan Campus Library, and a library card from the Campus Library will be issued to you.
Your Library Account
To look at your library account, go to the First City Libraries online catalog and click on "My Account". Enter the last six digits of the barcode number from your First City Libraries library card, and you will get an Account Overview. From that screen, you may get a listing of your items checked out and their due dates, renew items, place holds on any item owned by a member of the First City Libraries consortium, and determine if you owe any fines.
Placing Holds
You may place a hold on items in the First City Libraries catalog while you are searching. Once you have identified such an item, click on the icon entitled "Request Item", and enter the last six digits of your First City Libraries library card, and identify which of the First City Libraries locations you would like pick up your item. If the item is indicated as being checked in, please allow two to three days for delivery.
