What is the SAB?

Here at the Student Activities Board we provide events that give students the opportunity to learn something new while at the same time have fun!!

The Student Activities Board (SAB) strives to provide a variety of high quality, engaging, and entertaining events reflective of the diverse needs and interests of our student body.

SAB is made up of committees (Cultural Arts, Engaging Issues, Pop Culture, Cinema & Dances, Spirit & Traditions) that are run by our student members. SAB committee members work hard to bring fun events to campus that all students will enjoy!

Anyone can join SAB!

We meet on Wednesday afternoons from 2:15-3:15 PM in the SAB office, Mourant 129. We invite anyone to come to our meetings and voice your ideas and opinions.

We look forward to seeing you there!

1) If you could describe SAB in three words what would they be?

“Epic, exciting, & invigorating!”

2) After earning your bachelors degree from UAS you’re now working for the university full time and are pursuing a masters degree. What was it about Juneau and UAS that made you fall in love with it and want to stay?

“The environment of Southeast Alaska is what initially drew me to Juneau & the great hands-on marine biology program here at UAS. The seemingly endless hiking trails, beautiful views, a vibrant art scene, & the wonderful people of Juneau are just some of the reasons I stayed.”

3) What nocturnal animal would you be if you had to choose and why?

“A Firefly- not only would it be fascinating to see the world from a bug’s perspective but some of my fondest childhood memories involve late night lighting bug hunts.”

1) What is your favorite part about working with SAB?

“Being able to meet different kinds of people I might have not met otherwise.”

2) If you had a snail that could magically grant wishes, what would you name it?

3) So you moved to Juneau all the way from Florida! What do you love most about Alaska and what makes UAS such a unique campus?

“I love how beautiful Alaska is and I love that our UAS campus has people from all over. So you get to meet different people”

Claire Andrews

Student Activities Board Assistant

1) What is your favorite event that SAB hosts on campus?

“My favorite event would be the spring carnival because there are so many different activities to chose from and it’s a great goodbye to the semester.”

2) If you were given the opportunity to spend 48 hours with absolutely anyone (living or dead), who would you spend it with and why?
“George RR Martin because I would love to have some nerdy conversations with him.”

3) What degree program are you currently in and what do you intend on doing after you graduate from UAS?
“Social science major. I want to either become a teacher or get my Masters in Archaeology.”

Nicole Tucker

Student Activities Board Assistant

1)    What made you get involved with SAB?

“I had just moved to town and hadn’t really met anyone from school yet. I went to the club fair at school and heard how SAB was a great opportunity to get involved on campus and meet new friends. It was and I have met so many great people so far and have had a blast.”

2)    What impacted your decision to move to Juneau from Georgia to attend UAS for college?

“I had always wanted to go to Alaska and had read so many great things about Juneau. I started looking into schools in Alaska and found UAS. My dream is to work with marine mammals and now I get to live in a beautiful town and study biology where there are countless opportunities available for me now and after I graduate.”

3)    Would you rather knowing you will die tomorrow, spend your last night out to dinner with your closest friends, or have it with your favorite movie star?

“I would definitely pick to spend it with my closest friends, although I wouldn’t mind having dinner with Alexander Skarsgård either.”

Humans vs. Zombies

Humans vs. Zombies (HvZ) is a week long game of moderated tag played at UAS twice a year (once in the Fall and once in the Spring semester). Human players must remain vigilant and defend themselves with Nerf blasters to avoid being tagged by a growing zombie horde. More than 100 UAS students and faculty members participate in HvZ each semester! If you’re interested in playing make sure to complete a liability form and return to or drop it by the SAB office during business hours.

Polar Plunge

A group of crazy awesome Juneauites get together at the Auke Bay Harbor and jump into the freezing cold water to be invigorated & prove their ruggedness! First 50 jumpers will receive a free t-shirt! Want to volunteer? Contact SAB in February! Interested? We’ll see you at the dock!

Campus Kickoff

The UAS Annual Campus Kickoff is to welcome new and returning students to campus and celebrate the beginning of the new school year. Campus Kickoff facilitates students' connections with each other and the UAS community through festive and interactive entertainment, information, and social experiences.
If you would like to get involved and help us out, we welcome students, faculty or staff-members to join us for the fun as a volunteer during Campus Kickoff.

Spring Carnival

The UAS Annual Spring Carnival is an end of the year celebration! At the end of each spring semester SAB organizes a carnival to let the students have some fun and enjoy themselves after working so hard during finals week. There will be music, food, carnival games, prizes, and even a dunk tank!
