Web-based courses deliver instruction via UAS Online and other online course management systems (such as Blackboard and WebCT). These courses require students to utilize a Pentium class computer with regular and reliable access to the internet. Students need to be proficient in email, internet browsing, chat rooms and other common computer applications. Most correspondence between the student and instructor occurs via email.
Textbooks for Ketchikan-based distance courses are sent automatically to registered students. If you do not want/need one of the required textbooks for a course, contact the Distance Office immediately.
Complete the following steps to begin your online course:
1. Login to UAS Online. If you do not know your UAS login ID or password, visit ELMO. New students are not usually added to the system until approximately two weeks before the beginning of the semester. Problems with UAS Online should be directed to the Juneau helpdesk.
2. Visit the course UAS Online site by the first day of class. The course syllabus and other course requirements should be posted there.
3. Update your UAS Online profile. To do this, login to UAS Online and click the "Edit Options" link. Note that information posted here is public to some extent; do not post information for which you do not want others to have access.
4. Login to your UAS email account. The login information for email is the same as your UAS Online login.
