Capt. Miller's Online Radar Refresher course was the first of its kind in the Nation.  This USCG approved course enables mariners to study online material at home and when ready, come to either UAS Ketchikan or UAS Juneau to take the test.

Captain Miller is a hawespiper, beginning as an Ordinary Seaman, working his way up to Able Bodied Seaman and then Mate/Relief Master on various coastal freighters, and Alaska Marine Highway vessels as well as a 25,000 ton container ship. He was employed for eight years as a Chief Mate / Relief Captain aboard the M/V Polar Venture, a 151 Ton (669 Ton ITC) Coastal Freighter and the M/V Sea Trader, a 360 Ton (1200 Ton ITC) Coastal Freighter. In his off time he has filled in as Mate aboard several tugboats and as Captain on small passenger vessels.

Captain Miller is currently the Marine Transportation Department Head and lead professor of Marine Transportation at the University of Alaska Southeast Ketchikan Campus.  He is USCG approved to teach almost every Maritime course that the University offers and has been the driving force behind the rapid expansion of the program, increasing the Marine Transportation Department's curriculum offerings more than four-fold in his 10 years as department head.  For recreation, Captain Miller enjoys hiking and sailing his 24 and 30 ft sailboats throughout Southeast Alaska.
